THE FIRST IGBO INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM ON REAL ESTATE PROPERTIES & INVESTMENT.
IGBO Speaking community in Lagos held its first real estate and investment summit at Marriott Hotel and Suites in GRA, Ikeja,Lagos on Sunday, 20th December 2022, in partnership with PERFECTION REAL ESTATE GROUP. The meeting attracted some dignitaries like traditional Igbo rulers, philanthropists, Investors, Entrepreneurs, Businessmen, and women from all parts of Lagos, the Chairman of Igbo speaking community,High Chief Sunday Cyril Eze said that the purpose of the event is to bring the idea of real estate and investment business to the Igbo community to enable the Ndigbo to embrace real estate and investment business to create more wealth among Ndigbo.
One of the speakers, Builder Godfrey Chukwura Godfrey, a Registered builder, a public relations officer (PRO) at Nigeria Builders Association, and a Member of the Six-ManTribunal Panel.In his words with journalists, narrated how one can invest in real estate. According to him, Real estate is a sure way of investing your money instead of investing in shares. Real estate investment is a sure means of projecting wealth, it is also a sure way you can handle loose money. He also talked about location, in his words ‘location is the main business, investing in a good location is profitable, location is king, you cannot have a poor property in a poor location but you can have a poor property in a good location’’. He advised the Igbo community in Lagos to embrace real estate investment.
One of the guests, Hon. Emmanuel Mok, Chairman of Alaigbo Development Foundation (ADF), Lagos Chapter spoke on the need for Ndigbo to embrace real estate investment, and subsequently, bring it down to Igbo land through the principle of ‘akurulo’. Ndigbo are investment-oriented and needs to play big time in real estate and property development. He said that real estate investment is valuable in Lagos, Abuja, and other parts of Nigeria and that if Ndigbo can bring down real estate investment to Igbo land, it will be much more valuable. Owerri, Asaba, and Awka are valuable areas of real estate investment. He lamented that the high level of insecurity in Igboland is affecting real estate investment and contributing to underdevelopment. In his words, real estate investment is a very profitable investment and the safest thing you can do. The thing is for you to secure it.
Chief Leo Okafor, former Chairman of Alaba International Market said that as an itinerant businessman, he has traveled to China and found that the Chinese are real estate investors and they make a lot of money in real estate investment. He mentioned Hongkong, Europe, and Taiwan as making good money in real estate investment. He further, said that he would be bringing the news of real estate investment to the doorstep of Alaba International Market for Ndigbo to embrace and invest. According to him, the time has come when real estate investment cascade to the middle class, so that the middle class can invest heavily in real estate and property development. He lamented the bad economy which has generated a high cost of living and prayed that the incoming government should do well so that real estate investment will move to the next level.
Rev. Paul Eze who represented the Chairman of the occasion HE. Cliff Nzeruem MD/CEO of Ibis Royale Hotel, also highlighted the need for a real estate investment campaign to continue to be on the front burner to enable the Ndigbo to do the needful.
Dr. Niyi Adeleye President/ CEO of Perfection Real Estate Group was so happy to meet the Igbo Community for the first time concerning real estate investment. In his words, ‘Ndi igbo are real business people, and entrepreneurs, I am happy to meet with them having much confidence that they will embrace real estate investment and take it to Igbo land and diaspora especially Dubai and other parts of the country’. He also mentioned several places where Perfection Real Estate has registered its presence,especially in Nigeria and Dubai.

Dr. Dave Olusegun group project director of Perfection Real Estate Group said they have real estate investment both in Nigeria and Dubai. He also said that he was invited by the igbo speaking community to present their Dubai real estate investment to them. He explained that the process of investment in Dubai is higher than that of Nigeria and the profit is ten times higher than that of Nigeria, that in Dubai,the return on investment starts immediately but in Nigeria, it takes ten years, and you keep on maintaining.
Akajimba Chief Joe Anyaeche, the Chairman organizing committee emphasized the need for real estate investment to be embraced by the Igbo businessmen and also promised to do his best to make sure that the Igbo Community in Lagos invests in the real estate business.
