IGBO WOMEN ASSEMBLY JOYFULLY CELEBRATES THE END OF THE YEAR

December 17, 2023, Men and women of caliber assembled at the Igbo Women Assembly’s annual event.

The occasion which normally took place at the end of the year was celebrated at Petfi Event Center, Ajao Estate, Lagos; to discuss the future of the Igbo cultural values, the conservancy of its language, and the improvement of its people.

Numerous sons and daughters of Igbo land rounded up at the event to debate ways to advance the Igbo community transnationally. 

Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and his retinue; notables including, Dr. Ebere Okafor, an Igbo lecturer at the University of Lagos, graced the event with their presence.

The prior discussion point made was the essence of preserving the Igbo language for future generations and ensuring that it would be made necessary to study in school.

During the press interview, Dr. Ebere Okafor, a lecturer at the University of Lagos, who completed her bachelor’s, master's, and doctoral degrees in Igbo language studies, spoke vigorously of how unhappy she is that there is a decrease in the percentage of people learning the Igbo language.

She encouraged Igbo parents to encourage their children to study the Igbo language.

She hinted that the University of Lagos is offering scholarships to every Igbo child who accepts to study the Igbo language even with a 0 jamb cutoff mark.

At the occasion, students from diverse schools from different local governments of the state displayed their rich cultural values at the event. 

Additionally, the occasion specified for Igbos to establish in their homeland and, embrace back their culture by teaching the Igbo language to their children to ensure that the language doesn't fade out.
