Nduka Obaigbena Announces Leekeeleekee: A New Platform Set to Transform Global Media
Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of THISDAY/ARISE Media Group, has unveiled plans for Leekeeleekee, an ambitious new media platform scheduled for launch in January 2026. The announcement was made during his keynote address at the 21st All Nigeria Editors Conference (ANEC), held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Positioned as a disruptive force in global content distribution, Leekeeleekee aims to provide a strong African alternative to the influence of major U.S. and Chinese media corporations. The platform will leverage technology to support creators, journalists, and storytellers across the continent while amplifying African narratives on a global stage.
During his address, Obaigbena highlighted the historic role of Nigeria’s media leaders — including Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu — noting how their contributions shaped national development. He emphasized the media’s responsibility in safeguarding democracy, stressing the need for freedom, boldness, and independence in the industry.
Obaigbena also urged support for Nigeria’s ongoing economic reforms, arguing that a stable economy is essential for a thriving media environment. He expressed confidence that Leekeeleekee would not only compete internationally but position Nigeria as a leader in global media innovation.
As excitement builds ahead of its debut, industry voices have praised the initiative. Ambassador Cornell Udofia, PRO of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (Lagos Chapter) and CEO of CMC Gladiators/CMC Entertainment, described Leekeeleekee as a symbol of Africa’s creative resurgence — a platform poised to elevate the continent’s stories with pride and authenticity.
