Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria Holds Annual Lecture and Awards Ceremony in Lagos

The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) had its Annual Lecture and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 27th November 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos. The event brought together security experts, public officials, journalists, and special guests to discuss national security issues and look for new ways to prevent crime in Nigeria.


This year’s lecture focused on the theme: “Harnessing Technological Innovations for Crime Prevention and Control in Nigeria.”


In his keynote speech, Dr. Bone Chinye A. Fossil, Chairman of Street Guard Ltd, emphasized that gathering intelligence-based information is essential for effective crime prevention and control.

He pointed out that access to funds is a significant enabler of criminal activity and stressed the need for better monitoring systems and sharing intelligence among security agencies.


The Royal Father of the Day, HRM Oba Gbolahan Akanbi Timson; Jagunmolu of shomolu/bariga kingdom also spoke to the audience. 

He highlighted the crucial role of media professionals in shaping public perception and promoting accountability. He stated that “journalists who are not afraid to publish the truth are few,” urging reporters to maintain integrity and courage in their work.


The event included many dignitaries, distinguished personalities, and award recipients. Several individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions to fighting crime, improving security, conducting criminal investigations, ensuring national safety, demonstrating leadership, and showing dedication to public service.


Among the awardees were: 

  • AlhajiBashir A. Adeniyi Comptroller- General of Customs.
  • Kemi Nanna Nandap the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
  • AIG Margaret Ochalla Agebe known to be a visionary reform advocate and relentless defender of justice.
  • ACC John Onoja Attah, a beacon of courage and service in Nigeria's security landscape.
  • HRM Oba Gbolahan Akanbi Timson recieved a peace ambassador award
  • And several more.


The event underscored the importance of collaboration among technology, media, and security institutions in creating a safer Nigeria.
